Climate Action beyond the Climate Change Regime: The Role of Human Rights and Investment Law
The Guarini Center on Environmental, Energy & Land Use Law at New York University School of Law, the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, Columbia Law School and the Centre for International Law and Governance at the University of Copenhagen welcome you to the seminar ‘Climate Action Beyond the Climate Change Regime: The Role of Human Rights and Investment Law.’ The event takes the form of a hybrid roundtable, with three thematic presentations, followed by an open discussion.
The seminar will bring together experts on human rights, investment, and climate change law to discuss how international law beyond the climate regime can support climate action.
While the adoption of legally binding temperature limitation commitments under the Paris Agreement has led to a significant upscaling of national decarbonization policies, international climate change law still suffers from a considerable enforcement gap compared to other international legal regimes. In particular, the seminar will focus on which solutions international human rights and international investment law can provide to bridge that gap, uncovering the most salient tensions between them and international climate law.
