Louise Victoria Johansen invited speaker at conference on ‘Punishment and imprisonment in the Nordic countries’

University of Agder, Kristiansand, hosts international conference on Nordic penal practices. Louise Victoria Johansen is invited to present the paper ‘Expecting punishment: Remand prisoners’ hopes for a fair trial’.

The conference addresses ‘Nordic exceptionalism’ as formulated by John Pratt in his famous two-part article about ‘Nordic Exceptionalism’ in 2008.
Pratt argued that the Nordic countries are exceptions to the Anglo-American trend of increasing punitiveness. The conference asks in what ways recent studies and penal policy developments, support or challenge the idea that Nordic prison policies and practices are unusually humane and inclusive?
