Webinar: Renewable Energy Directive

"Fifty Shades of Binding" and Implementation into Danish law

The Centre for International Law and Governance (CILG), Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen and the Danish Climate and Energy Law Society are hosting a joint webinar on 16 March 2021. The webinar will focus and take different angles on the RED II Directive.

The webinar will initially address a recently published paper by Alessandro Monti and Beatriz Martinez Romera: Fifty shades of binding: Appraising the enforcement toolkit for the EU’s 2030 renewable energy targets’. It will focus on the recast of the Renewable Energy Directive, which was adopted in December 2018, by the European Union (EU) and which introduces a new target of 32 percent renewable energy to be reached at the EU level by 2030.

To shed further light on the more practical implications of the RED II, Jane Glindvad Kristensen, Head of Division at the Danish Energy Agency, will give a short presentation of key aspects of the Agency’s work related to the implementation of the Directive and provide some thoughts on the Directive from an administrative point of view.

At the end of the talk, the new legal research project: Enhancing Climate Action through International Law (EnAct)funded by DFF will be presented. This project, which will start running at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen in April 2021, explores how international investment law can contribute to enhancing climate action in support of the green transition.
