The Role of Human Rights in Phasing Out Fossil Fuels

Human Rights Watch and the Centre for International Law and Governance (CILG), Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen are hosting a seminar on The Role of Human Rights in Phasing Out Fossil Fuels. The event will take place in hybrid form on the 19th November 2021 from 15.15 to 16.45 at the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen and on Zoom.
The event will investigate how human rights can be used as a tool to phase out fossil fuels, thus contributing to climate action. The event will explore cutting-edge developments in ways in which human rights are used to advancing climate change mitigation action and ambition of states, in line with their commitments under the Paris Agreement. To this end, the event will outline the critical role played by litigation, advocacy, and enhanced standard setting through human rights law. These topics will be presented by key experts from academia and civil society, followed by a Q&A.
