CeBIL core partner Prof. Jacob Sherkow interviewed in Nature, STAT and NPR

The 10th of September 2018 the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued a ruling on the rights of the CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing system. The court upheld a 2017 decision, where the court had upheld a series of patents that were granted to the Broad Institute and MIT.

Jacob Sherkow is a professor of Law at the Innovation Center for Law and Technology at New York Law School and a Visiting Permanent Professor at CeBIL. He has followed the CRISPR-cas9 case closely and has written extensively on it.

It therefore comes as no surprise that Sherkow was asked by various news outlets, to provide comments on the result of the case at the Federal Circuit Court. Sherkow was interviewed by Nature, the International Journal of Science, NPR and STAT News.

In an interview with the NPR, Sherkow said about the case, "It seems to reward the most valuable aspect of CRISPR to the Broad Institute,” and in an interview with STAT he said that the decision “is absolutely 100 percent correct on the law.”
