The Vis Moot (Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot or in Danish CISG- og voldgiftprocesspillet) is one of the largest and most prestigious international moot courts in the world. More than 200 teams from universities all around the world participate and compete in writing memoranda and oral argumentation rounds in Vienna. The moot is special in the way that it is an arbitration moot court and the only moot court focusing on International Commercial Law. Thus, the moot court is based on a dispute arising in the area of the sales of goods and it arises between two countries who are parties to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). The parties will furthermore have enacted the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration and are parties to the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards (the New York Convention). The dispute that the competition is based on will give rise to both procedural issues concerning international commercial arbitration and substantive issues concerning the sale of goods and the CISG.
