Please check this website or write to phd@hrsc.ku.dk requesting specific information.

When is the new application deadline for scholarships?
This is usually at the beginning of the year, however we may have exceptions. Please check the homepage for specific dates: www.jura.ku.dk/phd/english/. If you would like to be notified of available PhD scholarships and related deadlines please sign up to our ‘Vacant PhD scholarships alert’.

You can only access the online application system when there are vacant PhD scholarships advertised on our webpage. If you wish to apply as a self-financed PhD student, please contact PhD Administration in writing (phd@hrsc.ku.dk) in order to receive a copy of the application form.

Is there an application fee?
There is no application fee.

Can I submit multiple research project proposals during the same scholarship announcement period?
No, you can only submit one application.

I applied to be admitted to the PhD programme last year but my application was rejected, can I submit another application this year?
You are welcome to submit an application again this year.

Do I need to have a master’s degree in law in order to be admitted to the PhD programme?

You do not need to have a master’s degree in law in order to be admitted to the PhD programme. However, the master’s degree that you have completed must be equivalent to a Danish master’s degree in law. The PhD assessment committee will decide whether you are qualified to be admitted to the PhD programme after assessing your educational background, research proposal and other documents. For more information see: https://jura.ku.dk/phd/english/applicants/educational-background/

I have not yet completed my master’s degree. Can I still apply to be admitted to the PhD programme?
You may submit an application before having completed your Master’s Degree (or for applicants for the integrated 3+5 PhD Programme, before you have earned your Bachelor’s Degree).  However, you should have submitted the final evaluation for your course before 1 June of the year when the PhD programme is to commence (check the specific PhD call as this date may change). In the application you must include certified documentation of enrolment and grade transcript from the university where the degree is currently being completed. If not included, the application will be rejected.

What do I have to do if I want to apply for enrolment without scholarship?
You follow the same procedure as you would if you were applying for a scholarship. However, you can apply at any time. See the application procedure on the homepage. In case you want to apply you will have to pay a tuition fee. For further information, please see the page on ‘Self-financed PhD students’).

How much would I have to pay in tuition fee?
At the Faculty of Law the tuition fee is approximately DKK 70,000 (USD 12,000) per year. The Faculty of Law decides which applicants to enroll as PhD fellows. If you are awarded a PhD scholarship the tuition fee will be fully covered.

I have not completed a TOEFL or IELTS test but have test results from another English language test. Will you accept these results instead of TOEFL or IELTS test results?
For further information on English language requirements see: https://jura.ku.dk/phd/english/applicants/language-requirements/

Do I have to speak Danish if I apply for enrolment?
The answer is no, but it is a very good idea to be willing to learn the Danish language as most individuals within the academic environment speak Danish and some PhD courses are conducted  in Danish. English is our second used language.

Where can I find a supervisor who can guide me in the application process?
Read the section under ‘Research centres and centres of excellence’ on the Faculty’s webpage or see: www.jura.ku.dk/english/centres_service_units/

I cannot obtain all the documents that you request me to submit together with my application. If I am missing certain documents, can you make an exception?
Most unfortunately, if you have not submitted all the required documents your application will be dismissed. No exceptions will be made.

How do I find out if all the documents I attached to my online application have been properly uploaded?
Once you submit your online application, you will receive a confirmation email containing a link. By clicking on this link, you will be able to see what documents you have attached to your PhD application.
