Entry requirements and how to apply

How to apply

Only 20 students will be admitted each year. We expect a high number of applicants, all with above-average qualifications so you must prepare yourself for a tough competition to be selected.

The application deadlines are:
Non-EU students: 1 March 2011
EU/EEA students: 1 April 2011
Danish students: 1 April 2011


Study start will be 1 September 2011.


To apply please fill out the online application form and attach the requested documentation.  The online application form is being modified at the moment. It will be accessible on this website from the end of January 2011.

To be eligible for admission, the following information and documentation must be included in your application:

  • A recent passport photo (jpeg file 180x 180)
  • A copy of your passport
  • Certified transcript of grades documenting your bachelor’s degree
  • Official explanation of grading scale
  • A personal ranking of your Bachelor degree from the home university
  • Documentation of your English language skills
  • An academic reference
  • Personal Motivation letter
  • Short CV

If all of the above documentation is not attached to your application, we will not process your application.

Please note:
If you are a non-EU/EEA student, you have to make sure that we receive a certified copy of your BA Diploma/Transcript in a sealed envelope sent by snail mail directly from your university by 1 March. The postal address is:

Entry requirements

To be qualified for admission, you must have either:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Law or 
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences with a minimum of 45 ECTS credits within either Law, Economics or Management. A combination of the three subject areas will also be sufficient, for example 15 ECTS credits within Law combined with 30 ECTS credits within management.

There are no exceptions from the above-mentioned entry requirements.

Language Requirements

You must provide proof of good qualifications in English with either a:

  • TOEFL paper-based test score of at least 600
  • TOEFL iBT test score of at least 100
  • IELTS (academic) test score of at least 7.0
  • Passed Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English

It is a requirement that you have taken the test within the last two years when you apply.

You do not have to take a language test if you:

  • Have a complete bachelor degree done in English from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, England or the US
  • Have a complete upper secondary education done in English from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, England or the US

There are no exceptions from the above-mentioned requirements.

Personal Motivation (max 1000 words)

You must write why you wish to study the ILECMA programme. Please remember to write max 1000 words. It is your own motivation and you can e.g. write about:

  • Why do you find this programme interesting 
  • How will you contribute to the cross-disciplinary programme
  • How will you cope with a very high workload, ambitious lecturers and fellow students
  • What academic and possibly work experiences will benefit you in the programme
  • If you are planning to move to Denmark to study ILECMA - how do you see your student life during the programme
  • How can this programme make a difference for you

You are free to write what you believe is important in your motivation. We recommend that you spend time to write a coherent and well-argued motivation as it is part of the selection criteria.

Tuition fee, scholarships and residence permit for non-EU/EEA students

The tuition fee is 35.000 € for the two-year programme for overseas students, that is 17.500 € per year. In addition to the tuition fee, you must be able to pay all other expenses such as housing, food, books and other personal expenses.

For the admission in 2011 we have a limited number of scholarships. They will be awarded on grounds of academic excellence. You can apply for a scholarship along with your application for admission.

Please note that the Faculty of Law only awards tuition fee waivers. You will therefore have to be able to cover your living expenses while studying. 

Do you come from an EU/EEA country?
You do not pay tuition fee for the ILECMA programme if you are an EU/EEA citizen. You must however be able to pay all other expenses yourself such as housing, food, books and other personal expenses.


Residence Permit for non-EU/EEA students

If you are offered admission to ILECMA, you have to document the following when applying for residence permit:

  • If you are awared a tuition fee waiver, you have to provide documentation of your ability to pay for living expenses when applying for a residence permit. You have to provide proof that there is an amount equal to DKK 50.000 deposited in a bank account belonging to you. Your bank has to be internationally recognised.

We recommend that you contact The Danish Immigration Services to ensure that you provide the correct documentation with your application for a residence permit when you receive an offer of admission.

  • If you are to pay tuition fee, you have to pay the first year’s tuition fee (EUR 17.500) when you receive the letter of admission.

 

Please note that you cannot apply for a residence permit before you have been offered admission to the programme. You will receive the application form for a residence permit from the Faculty of Law.
 

Processing fee

You have to pay a processing fee of DKK 1.600 when you submit the application for a residence permit. Read more about the processing fee on the website of The Danish Immigration Services.


Living expenses

These are rough estimates of what it costs a single person to live in Copenhagen:
Housing  DKK 2,500 - 4,300 /month
Board  DKK 1,500 - 2,000 /month
Books and other study materials  DKK 1,000-1,500 /semester
Local transportation  DKK 300-600 /month
Estimated pocket money DKK 1,000 /month
