International Courts and the New World Order

In his article “International Courts and the new world order” Mikael Rask Madsen presents an overview of the evolution of international courts in the 20th century, and especially how two devastating world wars impacted this development.

The main argument in the article is that the current proliferation of international courts across the globe is linked to the success of international courts in the European integrations process. Finally, the article responds to claims made by some scholars on the democratic deficit of supra national law and particularly international courts.
