Is the Green Card Better than the Blue Card?

Article by Silvia Adamo and Marlene Wind on the Danish and European initiatives aimed at attracting highly skilled workers to the European Union.

Silvia Adamo (CESEL) and Marlene Wind (iCourts) published an article entitled ‘Is Green Better than Blue? The Danish JHA Opt-out and the Unilateral Attempt to Attract Highly Skilled Labour’ in the European Journal of Migration and Law 17 (2015).

The article examines and compares the Danish Green Card Scheme and the European Blue Card Directive, which are competing initiatives aimed to attract highly skilled workers to Denmark and to the Union as a whole, respectively. It analyses the differences and similarities between the two schemes and investigates why initiatives to attract highly skilled workers have not been successful at either the Danish nor the European level.
