Research Professor Antoine Vauchez visits iCourts

Research Professor Antoine Vauchez from Paris-Sorbonne University visits iCourts in septemberiCourts is proud to announce that Research Professor Antoine Vauchez from Paris-Sorbonne University, will be visiting the Centre in September.

Antoine Vauchez is a Research Professor (Directeur de recherche) in political sociology at the Centre européen de sociologie et de science politique (Université Paris 1-Sorbonne / CNRS) and coordinator of a research strang on ‘The disputed field of global justice’ in the framework of the Global governance programme at the European University Institute.

After receiving his Ph.D at the European University Institute, he has been a post-doc at the American Bar Foundation (Northwestern University), a Marie Curie Fellow at the Robert Schuman Center, and a Visiting professor at the LUISS (Rome).

He has researched extensively on the sociology of (national and international) courts, judicial politics and legal elites in their relationship to politics and democratic forms of legitimacy.

Among his most recent publications, see a Working Paper ‘Courts, Social Change, and Judicial Independence’ (EUI, 2012), an edited volume Lawyering Europe. A Socio-Legal Analysis of EU Law Field (with Prof. Bruno de Witte, Hart, 2012, forthcoming), and a number of papers in the American Journal of Sociology (2012), European Political Science Research (2011), International Political Sociology (2011) and the Revue française de science politique (2010).

During his stay in iCourts Center of Excellency, he will focus particularly on the sociology of transnational legal fields, tracing their formation back to the early discussions on the statute of the first World Court in the 1920s.
