Research
The purpose of FOCOFIMA is to support and enhance research and education within Company Law and Financial Market Law.
Company Law
Company Law pertains to the organisation and management of legal persons, e.g. private and public limited companies (a.k.a. capital companies), partnerships (a.k.a. personal companies), associations and foundations.
Financial Market Law
Financial Market Law pertains to the organisation of financial markets and the regulation of the parties acting on these markets. Financial markets are, inter alia, regulated markets for goods and securities (stock exchanges), the banking sector, mortgage backed credit, insurance and pensions.
Importance for society
Thus, these two legal disciplines are of fundamental importance for society and its prosperity.
Overlap between Company Law and Financial Market Law
There is a considerable overlap between Company Law and Financial Market Law, because the parties acting on financial markets are often organised as companies. Furthermore, these two disciplines overlap and interact with other legal disciplines, such as the law on property and obligations, banking law, and pension law. For this reason, FOCOFIMA co-operates with other research centres at the Faculty of Law and with other institutions in Denmark and abroad.
