Multicultural Challenges in the Court
Professor Werner Menski, School of Law, SOAS, University of London will give a lecture via his Powerpoint presentation : Multicultural Challenges in the Courts: Plural worlds of law, the search for ‘the right law’ and skilful legal navigation, followed by comments a presentation for discussion by Former Supreme Court President Torben Melchior. A buffet dinner will be served in connection with the event.
Centre for Studies in Legal Culture (CRS) is hosting this event in collaboration with the Centre for European Islamic Thought (CEIT) by Professor Jørgen S. Nielsen.
Professor Werner Menski is an expert of Southeast Asian law, and he has written books and articles about Muslim and Indian Family law, about law, religion, democracy and about expert witnesses in Great Britain. His latest book Comparative Law in a Global Context: The Legal Systems of Asia and Africa, is published in its second edition at Cambridge University Press in 2006.
Professor Menski has taught at courses about multiculturalism and intercultural human rights, and he has contributed as an expert witness in legal trials.
He is currently a member of the Advisory Board for the EU-project RELIGARE. Religious Diversity and Secular Models in Europe. Innovative Approaches to Law and Policy. (2010-2013)
Torben Melchior was a Supreme Court judge 1991- 2010 as well as the President of the Supreme Court 2004- 2010.
