Two CECS members participate in international research project on EU integration

A new book on EU integration entitled “The EU between ‘an Ever Closer Union’ and inalienable policy domains of member states” has just been published. The book is a result of an international German led research project aiming to find the balance between on the one hand the expressed treaty goal of an “ever closer union” and on the other hand the legal limits which are to be found in member state constitutions and judgments and the political limits stemming from the need to maintain public support for the EU. The recent elections for the European Parliament have just proved the topicality of the latter perspective. Two researchers from CECS, Professor Helle Krunke and former PhD student Felix Schulyok (who now works at the European Commission), have participated in the project which also included a symposium in Germany last year. Their contribution is related to the relationship between national citizenship and EU citizenship. You can find their article “National Citizenship and EU Citizenship: What Actual Competence is Left for the Member States in the Field of Citizenship?” and many other interesting articles in the book.
